As eager as Elle is to get Mindy all matched up, she's taken her time with this one. There have been other men she's suggested, of course, but she has a super good feeling about this one. She just has to make sure Mindy does, too, before she arranges anything, and she needed time to be absolutely sure Rene is the brilliant, charming gentleman he seems to be and not potentially some psycho murderer.

Now that she's convinced he's unlikely to murder her friend, Elle's set. The minute she has Mindy's approval, she can make all of this happen. Rene's easy. It's Mindy who needs to sign off. Only the best for her friends, Elle thinks.

Knocking at Mindy's door, she bounces on her heels. She hasn't said why she's coming over, just for a visit, but she can't wait to tell her. Swiping her phone unlocked, she pulls up her photos, scrolling through in search of one of Rene. "Mindy? It's me."

This is the good part. Taking a deep breath, Elle beams, phone clutched in one hand as she gesticulates. "Hot," she says, "charming, cultured, intelligent. He's a lawyer from Paris. A little bit taller than me, looks like a young Christian Bale. I'm so not even kidding." She holds out her phone, triumphant, to show Mindy the picture. "He's fun. I met him when I was buying pastries."

"Wait, and you found him in a bakery?" Mindy asks, because that's pretty much all of her boxes ticked. Cute, cultured Christian Bale who isn't anti-carbohydrates? Amazing. There has to be a catch. "How sure are you that he's not a serial killer?"

Elle bites her lip, thinking that over, because it deserves a serious answer. Dating is a serious business and it can be scary; it's up to them to look out for each other. "Almost positive," she says. "Of course, you can never be completely sure when you first meet someone, but he's really more the equal rights kind than the killing kind, and he seems really stable." She's pretty sure this calls for a double date anyway, just to get the ball rolling. There's safety in numbers, and that includes against boredom.

Mindy's pretty sure that there has to be some kind of catch because wow, but she's even more sure that she wants to risk it. "Oh my god," she says slowly, grinning at Elle. "You found me French Christian Bale. You are officially the best friend ever."

She only feels guilty about Gwen for a moment, too. Maybe when she came through on Michael Fassbender for her birthday the competition would even out again. Until then, though. Elle is miles ahead.

Elle shrugs her shoulders, beaming. "If you can't hook a friend up, what's the point of meeting cute guys when you've already got one?" Well, back in the day, she might have thought they'd be useful to have on hand for after a break up — at least, before Warner. Now she's got no need of them except to share or as friends. "I'll set up a double date. What are you watching?"

"Oh, it's," Mindy glances back behind her, cringing a little, momentarily distracted from the promise of a double date. It's good, too, that they'll be there to stop her from making too many heinous mistakes. "Deadly Women? It's true crime. I'm not, you know, looking for tips, or anything. I just think it is interesting."

"Oh," Elle says, looking at the screen again. She tips her head to the side, considering the dramatically gruesome reenactment in progress. "Well, you know, not all of the tips would be bad. In a pinch. If you were being attacked or something. Well, not that you have to worry about that with Rene. He's an absolute gentleman." She can hardly judge Mindy's interest in the show, though. Her own interest in murders is much more a professional thing, but she'd be lying if she said it weren't there. Helping Brooke just felt so good, after all.

Pretty much all of the best serial killers were perfect gentlemen, but Mindy knows that's not really the point. She has to kind of worry that this guy is out of her league, much as she exudes confidence, but decides against saying that. "Ugh, I'll bet. Seriously, thank you, Elle. You really are the best. You have to make sure I don't screw up on the date, okay? I... do not have the best track record, for the record."

"Not to worry," Elle assures her, reaching for Mindy's hands. "Okay, you are gorgeous, brilliant, funny, and so charming, okay? Any guy worth your time is gonna overlook any faux pas, believe me. And you'll have me there to help, promise." That's what friends are for, after all. If Mindy doesn't wind up liking Rene, that's one thing, but if she does? Elle will make sure the course of true love does run smooth this time.
